How to customize your name place card design

Tips for printing Thanksgiving place cards

First, make sure your cards or tags are compatible with your printer. While you don’t need a special printer to make place cards, you do need to choose products designed for your printer type. For example, only use laser-printable cards or tags with a laser printer.

Not sure which type of printer you have? Learn how to tell if your printer is inkjet or laser.

Pro Tip: Some Avery cards and tags are compatible with both laser and inkjet printers. If the packaging or product page says “laser/inkjet,” you can use them with either printer type.

Next, always print a test sheet on regular paper before printing on your cards or tags. This helps you catch design errors, misalignment, or scaling issues before using your printable products.

To check alignment, place the printed test sheet over your blank Avery card or tag sheet and hold both up to a bright light. If the design doesn’t line up with the card or tag outlines, adjust your printer settings before printing again.

Finally, check your printer settings before printing. Select the correct paper size and make sure the scaling is set to 100% or “Actual Size.” If you’re unsure how scaling works, Adobe’s guide to adjusting print size explains the different options very well.

Then, under your printer’s Properties or Preferences, choose the appropriate media type, such as cardstock, heavyweight paper, or specialty paper. These settings help your printer handle thicker materials and keep your designs properly aligned.
