When you think about the holidays, what comes to mind? The hot chocolate? The lights? The Christmas trees? Is it the smell of chestnuts roasting on an open fire? There are endless scenarios that could be dancing through your mind.

When it comes to the Christmas season, I can’t help but think of the scents that accompany this special time of year. There are holiday smells and flavors for everything from specialty food and drinks to beauty products and candles. And the list keeps growing.

Candle sales continue to grow. And making your own holiday candles is becoming more popular every year with candlemakers creating candles with special scents that remind them of this magical season.

Let’s start with some of our favorite holiday scents from our partners at CandleScience.

Misletoe Candle

Mistletoe candle for the holidays

Picture walking through the woods and enjoying all the enticing scents. Close your eyes and imagine the sound and feel of the snow crunching under your feet with each step while you look for that perfect sprig of mistletoe or fresh Christmas tree.

This lovely mistletoe fragrance oil from CandleScience is infused with natural essential oils including cedarwood, fir, and patchouli. It features top notes of eucalyptus and camphor, with middle notes of pine, fir, and a touch of spiced clove.

Fraser Fir Candle

Fraser fir scented holiday candle

I don’t know about you, but putting up the Christmas tree is my very favorite part of decorating the house for Christmas. The scent of fir floating throughout the house, the twinkling lights on the tree next to the fireplace. It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

CandleScience created this Fraser fir fragrance oil with mild citrus top notes, earthy undercurrents, and a woody, fir balsam core that makes you think Christmastime.

Fireside Candle

Fireside candle scent for Christmas holidays

Being a California girl it isn’t too often that I get to turn on the fireplace. But there are a few weeks in December when I get to clear the dust and turn it on. There’s nothing better. This blend is perfect to burn alongside your fireplace or simply light the candle, close your eyes and pretend.

Familiar and distinctive, this CandleScience scent of this fireside fragrance oil melds notes of smoke and wood into a warm union of clove, amber, sandalwood, and patchouli.

Dry Gin & Cypress Candle

Dry Gin & Cypress candle fragrance for Christmas

A new fragrance oil last year from our friends at CandleScience is Dry Gin & Cypress. A juniper top note gives this light-bodied spirit its signature aroma. Red currant adds a hint of fruit that leads to a woody fusion of balsam, oak, cedar, and cypress in the base.

Anyone else craving a gin and tonic now? No? Just me?

Frosted Juniper Candle

Scented candle made from frosted juniper fragrance oil

Growing up my Mom and I would bake Christmas cookies every year for the family. Her favorite has always been lemon bars. That’s what happy memory this scent brings to me. What about you?

This frosted juniper fragrance oil is infused with natural essential oils including eucalyptus, fir needle, lemon, cedar leaf, clove leaf, and galbanum. If this scent doesn’t scream Christmas, I don’t know what does.

Peppermint Candle

Peppermint scented candles are perfect for the winter season

Peppermint is about as classic as it gets when it comes to the flavors and smells of Christmas. People wait patiently (or maybe not so patiently) all year for the arrival of those peppermint lattes.

Not only does peppermint taste delicious but it also smells incredible. That sharp, refreshing scent reminds me of breaking out the candy canes every year to either hang on the tree or let melt into a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Oh, and don’t forget the marshmallows.

Gingerbread Candle

Gingerbread fragrance oil is a perfect winter candle scent

Gingerbread is another classic candle scent that you can’t go wrong with. I’m sure most of us have at least one fond memory of gingerbread.

Whether it be making a gingerbread house, enjoying a spicy gingerbread beverage, or just eating gingerbread cookies (no shame), gingerbread says Christmas.

Cinnamon Candle

Use cinnamon fragrance oil for creating holiday-scented candles

Cinnamon is a spicy favorite of mine for the holidays. It has a sweet woodsy fragrance to it that transports you to a magical winter world.

Who would have thought that the dried bark from a laurel tree could smell and taste so good?

Clove Candle

Make your own clove candles for the winter

The scent of clove isn’t too far off from cinnamon with the main notable difference being the fruity top note of cloves that can’t be missed. A great scent to burn while baking your favorite holiday treats.

Fun fact. Did you know that the aroma of clove has been said to help reduce drowsiness, irritability, and headaches?

Cedar Candle

Cedar candles for the holidays to match your christmas tree

Cedar is another woodsy scent that takes me to that special time of the year. It offers a top note of camphor combined with woodsy, balsamic undertones.

It’s a fresh scent that will make you feel as if you’re strolling through an evergreen forest.
