Die vs Laser Cutting

The difference between conventional die cutting vs laser cutting:

Advantages of Die Cutting:

  • Speedy process during the finishing process.
  • No framing effect to show the edges of the material.

Disadvantages of Die Cutting:

  • Requires a custom manufactured die tool for the label shape and size, thus adding more to your initial order cost.

Advantages of Laser Cutting:

  • Cost effective

Disadvantages of Laser Cutting:

  • Heavily dependent on label design, as white edges can form on the perimeter of the printed label.
  • Simply seeing the thickness of the material. This is known as the "Framing Effect."
The framing effect is more noticeable when there is a dark background color in the design and then applied to a dark substrate.
  • Laser cutting is recommended when the label has a light color background and is going to be placed on a dark substrate so it's noticeable.
