Avery Durable ID Cards and Badges are compatible with most major laser printer brands and optimized for smooth printing. Some printers handle film card materials better than others. Here are some tips to consider.
Use a laser Printer
Avery Durable ID Cards and Badges are only laser printable. If you use an inkjet printer, the ink will smear and smudge.
Which printers work best?
Here are examples of printer brands that have been tested well to work with these products:
- HP LaserJet Pro printers (e.g. M454dw, M255dw, M553n)
- Canon imageCLASS printers (e.g. MF236n, MF455dw, MF644Cdw)
- Brother printers (e.g. HL-L2300D, DCPL2550DW, MFC-L8900, HL-L3290CDW)
- Dell printers (e.g. C3760dn)
If your printer is having difficulty feeding the sheet, it is possible the printer or pick up roller is dusty. Please contact the printer manufacturer to find out how to clean the printer.
Some Samsung and Pantum printers may have difficulty feeding these film card and badge products. If you are experiencing issues with your printer model, switching to another printer may resolve the problems.
Feed sheets through the multi-purpose or manual tray one at a time
Feeding the sheets through the multi-purpose tray one at a time will provide the best results most of the time. If for some reason the multi-purpose tray is not working well, you can try inserting one sheet at time through the standard tray.
Print each side separately
If printing on both sides, please print one side first, then flip and print the second side separately. We do not recommend using the auto double-sided (duplex) print feature as this can cause potential feed issues for the second side print.
Make sure paper guides are closely fitted to your sheet
To minimize skewing and off-registered printing, please ensure that the guides for your multi-purpose manual tray are snug to the sheet.
Test print on a blank sheet of paper first
We recommend printing on a blank sheet of paper first to ensure that the print matches the layout on the actual sheet. Some printers require the bottom edge feed first while others require the top edge to be fed first. This is especially important for the badge products which have pre-punched holes.
Printer settings
For these film products it is important to use a heavier print setting such as cardstock, transparency extra heavy, extra heavy gloss. On some printers the label setting may also work well.
We also suggest checking that your Scale is set to 100 or Actual Size is selected and that the paper size is set to 8.5” x 11” or Letter.
