The Durability of Avery Asset Tags is affected by the surface the label is applied to, exposure to conditions, amount of abrasion/scratching exposure and whether the equipment is indoors or outdoors.
Adhesive
This product has a permanent adhesive that will bond to most smooth surfaces (including metal and painted metal) and will resist lifting. Some highly textured plastic surfaces may not develop high adhesion.
Durability
The label will resist typical abrasion, scratching, etc. that may occur during normal use of equipment.
Print Durability
This will vary depending on the laser printer used and printer settings. You can test by scratching the print to confirm the toner is fused to the label surface. If the toner scratches off, please test alternate printer settings (such as label or thick cardstock settings) to improve toner fusing.
Heat Exposure
Constant exposure to high heat, greater than 140F, may reduce the life of the label.
Outdoor Exposure
The label will withstand direct sunlight for 1-2 years before the polyester film begins degrading. The polyester film will become brittle and begin to crack, causing attempted removal of the label to break off in pieces.
Black laser toner will withstand the UV exposure of direct sunlight and should also last at least 1-2 years outdoor. However, if printing the label in color, the other laser toner colors may fade.
Although results will vary from printer to printer, typically yellow will probably last about 6 months of outdoor exposure. This may affect orange/red shades (turning them to magenta) and green shades (turning them to cyan). Magenta and cyan will also be affected by direct exposure to sunlight (UV) but typically last longer than yellow.
We encourage you to test labels in their environment to make sure performance meets your requirements.
