Graphic Designer – Direct to Consumer<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hi, I\u2019m Aileen, and I\u2019m a graphic designer at Avery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was born and raised in Korea, the youngest of three girls. My family immigrated to the United States when I was in high school, and I have been living in Orange County, California, ever since. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was not easy to learn a new language and adapt to a new culture but looking back, there were so many things to be thankful for. I could experience many new things and meet people from various cultures. I learned that not only happy experiences but also hard ones are valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, I am very thankful that I  had a chance to study art in U.S., something that I wanted to do since I was young. I studied at Otis College of Art and Design, earned a BFA degree in Communication Arts (Illustration). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As my senior project, I illustrated the story reflecting my experience as an immigrant. It was about a piggy who crashed on cow land and tried to adjust himself to the new culture. Art has become a tool for sharing my stories with people beyond language. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My dream is to live in a beautiful small town and write and illustrate children\u2019s books when I retire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. Doing art projects with my niece and nephews and going Disneyland with them is always fun. I also like to go out and try good food with friends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, now we are in quarantine and cannot do much of those but I found myself a new hobby – cooking and learning my mom\u2019s Korean food recipes. I am still learning and always scolded by my mom for making a big mess in the kitchen, but I am really enjoying it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How I ended up at Avery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A few years ago, my friend moved into an apartment next to the Avery building in Brea. Every time I visited her, I saw the big Avery sign and thought it would be great to work for the company that makes the things I use a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember using Avery products during college for many projects. I used to burn music or school projects on CDs and label them with the Avery CD labels. I also made address labels, printed party favor labels, and created my own T-shirts using fabric transfer labels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About a year and a half ago, I saw the job posting and applied without hesitation. After interviews with my manager and team, I got my job at Avery as a graphic designer supporting the direct-to-consumer business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I do for Avery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I currently develop creative visual assets and content for the direct-to-consumer business. I support advertising, email campaigns, social media, and our blog by providing creative assets. I also create website assets and collaborate with the UX team on website design initiatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avery WePrint email campaigns are my favorite part of my job. I try to give every email I work on personality. And I hope all of our customers get the message clearly with attractive creatives. I’ve also started adding motion to emails and it has been so much fun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I feel blessed to be working with the most talented, supportive, passionate, and positive team members. Our greatest strength is our excellent communication and always asking questions to ensure we understand everything required for a project. Our strong communication helps us deliver the best things to our consumers. We also like to have fun as a team doing things like a recent live cooking class via Zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I write website content, marketing emails, and blog posts\u2014basically, all the words that help businesses and consumers figure out how to label their stuff. When I\u2019m not glued to a screen, I\u2019m out exploring the desert landscapes around Las Vegas\u2014whether it\u2019s hiking (walking) through Red Rock Canyon, cooling off at Mt. Charleston, or making the trek to Area 51 (because who doesn\u2019t love a good conspiracy?). I avoid the Strip unless there\u2019s a rock band I can\u2019t miss or I have friends in town. I kept my NBA ties strong by working in PR for their summer league and writing for NBA.com. I also spent 9 unforgettable New Year's Days working in the press box for Rose Bowl games. When the newspaper industry started crumbling, I transitioned into covering commercial real estate\u2014until the recession came along and crashed that party too. (Honestly, that was probably a blessing. Writing about cap rates, capital stacks, bridge loans, and mezzanine loans was giving me a serious case of brain fog.) Enter Avery, swooping in to save the day. Now, I\u2019ve been with Avery for almost 15 years, where I\u2019ve been able to put my writing experience to use in new ways. I write website content, marketing emails, and blog posts\u2014basically, all the words that help businesses and consumers figure out how to label their stuff. When I\u2019m not glued to a screen, I\u2019m out exploring the desert landscapes around Las Vegas\u2014whether it\u2019s hiking (walking) through Red Rock Canyon, cooling off at Mt. Charleston, or making the trek to Area 51 (because who doesn\u2019t love a good conspiracy?). I avoid the Strip unless there\u2019s a rock band I can\u2019t miss or I have friends in town.
