Printing Tips
The following printing tips are designed to help you get the most out of using Avery products with your computer system. Each tip addresses how a specific product interacts with different software products and printers.

Note: Before you print on the Avery product, always test print first on a blank piece of paper. Refer to your printer manual for printer specific paper loading and feeding recommendations.

Labels
Avery Ink Jet Labels
Before you print onto a label sheet, first print onto a blank piece of paper. Place the printed sheet in front of a label sheet, and then hold the sheets up to a light to make sure the positioning is correct.
Refer to your printer manual for loading and feeding recommendations. Many printers have special instructions for loading labels.
Fan the label sheets before loading them into the paper tray. DO NOT BEND THE CORNERS.
For easier feeding in most printers, place label sheets in the paper tray on top of 25 sheets of plain paper.
Adjust the paper width lever so that it barely touches the edge of the label stack and the labels don’t buckle.
For best results, let ink on the product dry completely before removing labels from the sheet.
Store unused label sheets flat in the original box in a cool, dry place.
Sheets of ink jet labels can be passed through an ink jet printer only once; the tight paper path of an ink jet printer can cause the label to curl on multiple passes through the printer. This could cause the label to jam or peel off inside the printer, resulting in an expensive repair bill. Avery Dennison’s guarantee of jam-free performance extends only to sheets of labels that have been fed through an ink jet printer a single time.
Only labels designed for an ink jet printer should be used with ink jet printers. Manual, copier, and laser labels will not feed through consistently and may damage ink jet printers.
For trouble-free label printing, have your printer thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis.
Name Badge Labels are designed for most fabrics except leather, suede, silk, plastic, velvet, corduroy, vinyl, and lamé.
Avery Laser Labels
Before you print onto a label sheet, first print onto a blank piece of paper. Place the printed sheet in front of a label sheet, and then hold the sheets up to a light to make sure the positioning is correct.
Fan the label sheets before loading them into the paper tray. DO NOT BEND THE CORNERS.
Only labels designed for a laser printer should be used with laser printers. Manual, copier, and ink jet labels will not feed through consistently and may damage laser printers.
Most laser products are designed to work in laser printers when printed directly from the automatic-feed tray.
Refer to your printer manual for loading and feeding recommendations. Many printers have special instructions regarding the direction in which you should load sheets.
Sheets of laser labels can be passed through a laser printer only once because the heat of the printer causes the adhesive to soften. If a sheet of labels is passed through the printer a second time, the adhesive could ooze and adhere to the inner workings of the printer, causing the labels to jam or peel off. Avery Dennison’s guarantee of jam-free performance extends only to sheets of labels that have been fed through a laser printer a single time.
Avery Fluorescent and Pastel Color Laser Labels are not recommended for ink jet printers.
For trouble-free label printing, have your printer thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis.
Name Badge Labels are designed for most fabrics except leather, suede, silk, plastic, velvet, corduroy, vinyl, and lamé.

Printing Tips
Some creative software programs have printing wizards or special features to help you print a two-sided project. If your program does not have a printing wizard, determine if your printer feeds face up or face down by following these instructions. This will ensure that you insert the product correctly when printing your two-sided project.
Does Your Printer Feed Face Up or Face Down?
1. On a blank sheet of paper, draw an arrow pointing to one of the shorter (8.5") sides of the paper as illustrated here.
2. Insert the paper in the feed tray with the arrow facing you and pointing into the printer. Feed as illustrated for your top feed or front feed printer.
3. Print your design.
4. Did your design print on the same side of the paper as the arrow?
Yes: Your printer feeds face up. Always feed your paper with the side to be printed facing you.
No: Your printer feeds face down. Always feed your paper with the side to be printed facing down or away from you.
Test Print
1. Print each side of the card design on a separate sheet of plain paper. Make a note of which side prints first, the front or back.
2. Hold the printed sheets separately behind the enclosed practice sheet or the Avery product to check the alignment of your layout. Slight adjustments to the layout may be necessary.
3. If the entire sheet is slightly misaligned, adjust the top and/or left margins slightly if your program has this feature.
4. When satisfied with the layout, print onto the Avery product.

Photo Quality Postcards
For best results feed the product using the envelope feed feature of your printer's paper tray. Some printers may not be able to support this paper size.
If the printer does not print the page correctly, check the printer properties to see if an equivalent paper size selection is available that is similar to the Avery product. For example, select File > Print. Click Properties and select an equivalent paper size option.
Refer to your printer manual for more information on printing custom paper sizes.
White Postcards
Refer to your printer manual for the direction in which you should load sheets and for other loading and feeding recommendations, particularly for card stock, labels, or transparencies. Many printers have special instructions for these types of products.
To ensure best results, we suggest you manually feed one sheet of Postcards at a time. If any of your sheets have been damaged or have bent corners, do not run those sheets through your printer, as jams may occur. Before printing the back side of the cards, be sure to flatten the sheets to minimize curl.
The front of your postcard can be printed in either portrait or landscape alignment. However, if you plan to mail your postcard, the back of the card (the side with the address) must be in the landscape format.

T-Shirt Transfer Sheets
Design and Print Your Transfer
Design your T-Shirt Transfer using any word processing or graphic software. Since the sheets are 8 ½" x 11", no special software template is required.
Using any full-page layout, design your transfer using text, photos and graphics.
Print either portrait or landscape designs. Create any size image up to 8" x 10".
Get bright, crisp colors for a professional silk screen look.
You can create one big transfer or design and cut out unique shapes and sizes.
Transfers are great for personalizing gifts, school and kid projects!
Light T-shirt transfer
When satisfied with your transfer design, flip it using your software program or your printer. This is very important if text is included in your design. If you do not flip the design, the text will be backwards when ironed on.
Software: Check your program’s help file to find out how to flip images. Key words to search include: mirror, flip, or t-shirt transfer. Some software will not flip text.
Printer: Within your printer’s Properties setup, look for an option called Flip Horizontal, Mirror Image or T-Shirt Transfer.
Note: Do not flip the transfer design in both the software and the printer; choose one method only.
Test print your design on plain paper to make sure the image is flipped when printed.
Dark T-Shirt Transfer
Be sure your software or printer is not flipping the design. No flipping of the printed image is required. When satisfied with your transfer design, test print your design on plain paper to make sure that the image is not flipped. How the design appears on the test sheet is how it will appear on your garment. For other printing questions or to determine how to “un-flip” your design, search your program’s Help file or review the printer manual.
Create and print your design as you want it to appear on the t-shirt. Some software programs (for example: Adobe® PhotoDeluxe®) and printers automatically flip the image when t-shirt transfer is selected as the project or media type. Due to these software and printer variations, always test print your t-shirt design on plain paper first.
Check print options to make sure the flipped/mirror image option is NOT selected.
Avoid using sheets with bent corners or other damage. They may jam your printer.
Store any unused sheets in the original packaging in a cool, dry place.
Do not use t-shirt transfers in the HP Deskjet 1200C and 1600C. Even though these are ink jet printers, they apply heat, which will adversely affect the transfer.
Do not use t-shirt transfers in laser printers.
Trim around the image before ironing.
Place the transfer sheet in your printer so that the blank side will be printed. For top loading printers, place the sheet with the blank side facing you. For front loading printers, place the sheet with the Avery logo facing up.
Print your transfer and allow it to dry for a few minutes before handling.

Tips for Designing Your Wallet-Sized Photos or Identification Card in Microsoft Word
If printing to the edge of the product:
The photo or graphic should fill the cell.
Resize your photo in your creative or photo-editing software first. For full wallet size, the photo should be 2.25" wide x 3.25" high (tall photos) or 3.25" wide x 2.25" high (wide photos).
The indent settings need to be set to 0" to remove any internal cell margins. Select Format > Paragraph. Set Left and Right Indentation to 0". Click OK. Repeat for each cell. To change the settings for all cells, select the table first, and then change the settings.
If applying a background color:
