Printable Fabric Instructions 3384; Ironing & Heat Press; Fabric, Wood, Cardboard

Printable fabric is 100% cotton with a heat seal backing that bonds to fabric, cardboard, wood and other porous surfaces.  Design at avery.com/templates, then print with an inkjet printer and iron or sew on.  Great for tote bags, pillows and quilts - items that don't need frequent cleaning.
Printing:
  • Images do not have to be mirror-image for Printable Fabric - they work more like a label being applied to a cotton or poly/cotton blend fabric or cardboard or wood and other porous surfaces
  • Print on the matte fabric side with an inkjet printer (do not use with a laser printer), the glossy side is the heat seal backing.
  • Trim around printed image to desired dimensions before ironing
Ironing onto Fabric:
  • Use a simple household iron on a hard, heat-resistant surface, such as a wooden table (not an ironing board).  Place a pillowcase down on the surface and iron to remove wrinkles
  • Set to cotton setting and preheat for 5 mins or highest heat setting.  Be sure there is no water in your iron and do NOT use steam
  • Place printable fabric face up where you want it to be and iron for 2 minutes for the full sheet, 1 minutes for a half-sheet or 30 seconds for a quarter-sheet with medium pressure. Make sure that all areas are completely sealed

Ironing onto Wood or Cardboard:

  • Pre-heat your iron on the highest heat setting
  • Place transfer directly onto your substrate face up (shiny side down) and start ironing with medium pressure. Full sheet: 1 min. Half Sheet: 30 seconds. 1/4 Sheet: 15 seconds
  • If you see any lifting on the side or corners then iron in those areas for another 5-10 seconds if needed

Heat Press Instructions:

  • Set heat press temperature to 315F
  • Pre-heat fabric (area you are applying the transfer) with the heat press for 5-10 seconds (it's best when you pre-wash your shirt without using fabric softener)
  • Place Transfer directly onto your fabric face up (shiny side down)
  • Apply the heat for 30 seconds for smaller designs, or 45 seconds for larger designs

  • Note:  Follow the instructions for your specific heat press and use our recommended temperature

Sewing:  You can also sew the printable fabric if desired, using heavier needle and thread, or settings for heavy cotton on a sewing machine

Washing (Optional):

  • If needed, it's best to hand-wash items with Printable Fabric in cold water with mild detergent and then lay flat to dry

  • Machine washing and drying is not recommended

  • Be sure to wait 24 hours after applying before getting it wet
