I purchased Avery file folder labels (5201) to use on the weight plates of my exercise machine. I know it sounds crazy, but I wanted printer quality numerals on small labels, and as my handwriting is pathetic, this seemed a good choice. I downloaded the free software template (7 labels to a sheet), opened it in OFFICE, picked font and size, justified and spaced to my needs, and the labels came out looking truly professional. The whole process took all of ten minutes, including the printing. My only complaint is that I had to reenter the font choice and size for each label because as I moved forward, the font would revert back to the default choice. However, this may be an issue with OFFICE and not the template. It is likely there is a way around this, but perhaps I am not savvy enough with OFFICE to have figured it out.

Template downloaded easily, I found that what worked for me was to use the Open option and then save it to my template directory in Word. Like many others I had trouble getting the formatting to stick. Then a bolt of lightning--this is a table! All I had to do to keep the formatting was to insert rows. The next hurdle, however, was that the font was way too small for my label preference. I have always used 16 pt. This messed up the line height/spacing. Best I could manage was 14 pt, so I settled. I didn't have the same issues as others did getting the last one to print since the last two were blank on my table. My suggestion: plan on this and insert a blank label. Less expensive than wasting a couple of pages trying to fight city hall. This was a struggle but after a couple of hours I finally got it. I didn't try this website or find the template right away, but once I did it helped a lot. Thought I was saving money, but in manhours boy was I wrong. However, having done the work, I now have this task nailed for the next few years.

If you are a Mac user don't every buy this product.

By Rickster

from Michigan

This review is from AVERY Filing Label, 7 per 4x6 sheet:

Was really disappointed that the packaging did not tell the consumer that this product does not work with Mac computers. In addition, when I tried an old PC, I had to tape the 4"x6" label sheet to an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper before I could use it.

Either make this product Mac compatible, provide packaging that says it is not Mac compatible or take it off the market.

I wonder how many others wasted their money.

I CANNOT GET THIS TEMPLATE TO WORK!

By Aerobic Grandma

from Florida

This review is from AVERY Filing Label, 7 per 4x6 sheet:

I used this for years on my PC but cannot get it to work at all on the MAC. It prints solid 80% gray from top to bottom and I tried lots of things from saving as a dotx template to copy/paste ... forget it. I am clearly not the only one to have the problem ... disappointing to have wasted so much time without result. MAC users: heads up.

Poor Alignment

By Tim

from North Carolina

This review is from AVERY Filing Label, 7 per 4x6 sheet:

After repeated attempts to print these labels, I gave up. No matter what margins, measurements I changed, the labels still printed 1/2 on one label and the bottom part on the next label. The alignment on the template needs to be corrected.

This review is from AVERY Filing Label, 7 per 4x6 sheet:

may as well just hand write versus printing. when one has to spend time actually thinking about printing a label, it quickly becomes obsolete. bye bye labels. hello archaic handwriting skills

This review is from AVERY Filing Label, 7 per 4x6 sheet:

Worked great first try, less than 5 minutes to download and fill in 35 labels. The actual printing however was really slow! Not sure if that was my printer or the template.

    Also expensive
