First, I downloaded the Adobe Illustrator template first, and had to call Avery to get assistance. He pointed me to the Word template. Aha. Wish it had been clearer: Maybe one click that you have two choices - Word or AI.

Then the problem was Word. You cannot get very creative with the Word template. You can't layer images, you can't set images where you'd like them.

The solution? I designed my business card in PUBLISHER, and Publisher has a template option, which inclueds the 8869. Then I could get very creative. In fact I could create really nice two-sided cards and they printed beautifully. I'm very happy with my labels, but if I hadn't had Publisher I'd still be fuming.

The solution?

Maybe Avery should make that clearer to people.

I recommend you make your own template. I explain how below.

The cells in the template were all slightly off from the perforation lines on the Avery paper. And because each cell is independent from each other, if you have to make a change, you have to do it eight times. So I spent an hour (and several draft prints) trying to get the page aligned with the perforations. I gave up and made my own template instead and was done in 10 minutes.

If you want to make your own template as well, do the following. If you look at the sheet, the perforation lines create a table that goes to the edge of the page. You are simply creating a table whose lines match the perforation lines on the Avery sheet:
Create a new document
Set all page margins to zero inches
Create a table with five columns and nine rows
Set the size of each row as follows:
- 1st row: .75 inches
- 2nd row: 2 inches
- 3rd: .5 inches
- 4th: 2 inches
- 5th: .5 inches
- 6th: 2
- 7th: .5
- 8th: 2
- 9th: .75
Set the size of each column as follows:
- 1st: .5
- 2nd: 3.5
- 3rd: .5
- 4th: 3.5
- 5th: .5
I found it better to the columns from right to left, and the rows from bottom to top.

I hope this helps. If you know how to work with tables, this will be a snap and save you a lot of headache.

This review is from AVERY Business Card - Wide, 8 per sheet:

You would think that an established company such as Avery would respect its consumer base. There is no respect when they give you "free" templates that come with bloatware -- or any marketing software at all. All I wanted was the template, printed at my cost, and they even insist on my email address, presumably to spam me from this point forward.

Tried the Word version - didn't work. Tried the Avery add-on Wizard, didn't work. Have been through this with the online Avery help - they sent me a new sleeve of business cards (NOT the same ones I wanted with the rounded corners),and yet, trying again with Avery 8869 for Word on Windows 10 - it STILL doesn't align right. REALLY, Avery? What is wrong with you?

Hard to navigate. Wasted soooo many pages trying to get the cards to print within the margins on all cards. I maybe get four useable cards out of eight on each sheet.

Working for a school, I often have to print off hundreds of labels for mailing, business cards, labels, etc. every week. I thought that Avery products would help make this easier, but I was wrong. The alignment is ALWAYS off when trying to print off any types of labels or cards. I have wasted quite a few sheets of paper and labels trying to figure out why this does not work. Save yourself time and energy, use another product or build your own templates!
