I can't understand all the negative reviews. Using the downloadable Windows installer for my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit machine, it works like a charm. It could be slightly more intuitive; however, it is easy to figure out if you ever used any type of labeling or greeting card software in the past (just two of many I've bought and used are Art Explosion Pro, Hallmark software, etc). Not quite as robust as Art Explosion, of course, but for free software it is quite the deal.

The program does allow me to save my address label projects (have not tried a greeting card yet, but will update once I do). It does allow reopening saved project files with no problem other than having to look at the bottom center of the Open a Saved Project tab screen once the program launches to see the correct link (middle center defaults to your online Avery account - not a deal breaker for me either way, but do prefer local machine storage as I backup regularly via Macrium Reflect free edition and Google drive).

Also, truthfully, the program does take a little longer to save and open a project than it really should, as I am using an AMD FX-6300 MHz processor, which normally blazes through whatever I through at it...this is the first program that has a several second delay when saving and opening, as well as when printing. But for free, can't complain too much.

I was ready to run when I saw the reviews, but past experience (about 8 years ago I think) with Avery software helped take a gamble, and it was well worth the roll of the dice. And did I mention, it is free?

This software is missing features that were available in DesignPro. You can no longer specify where, on the physical page, the printing should start. You can no longer specify to print multiple copies of a given label on the same page. I am currently shopping for an alternative and am open to suggestions. In the meantime, I have to keep one computer on Windows 7 just to print labels.

    • Cannot Print To Own Print

I cannot print to my own printer. This product is terrible and I have checked, downloaded drivers, still nothing. Keeps giving me error messages when I get to the review and print stage. Never again.

New version fouled up my barcodes

      By Matt

      from Juneau, AK

This review is from Avery Design & Print:

The new version only allows printing of barcodes at a few arbitrary scales. I have been shrinking barcodes to small sizes using the old software, and now I am prevented from doing so - the small barcodes worked well on our store's scanner, but since I downloaded the new version I can't get anywhere close. Seems like someone is trying to solve a problem that didn't exist. Now the old version is overwritten and the usefulness of this software is lost to me.

Don't add new "features" that aren't needed or that do away with useful features! I will no longer recommend Design & Print to others because it no longer does what I need it to do . . .

Have used Avery products for years. Have even used this product online. Worked pretty good online until they made changes to how you print it. Ever since then, the online wouldn't work. Wasted a ton of labels trying to get it to work and these labels are very expensive. Finally, a representative told me about the stand alone Design and Print. I was hopeful. But, it gives you a spell checker, but there is no button to correct it. Then it's coordination with your own printer is...GLITCHY!!! I am trying to start my own business from home and I am so frustrated with BOTH products. Maybe you need to gets some better IT Techs.

Shouldn't need to enter a file name every time it saves. Unintuitive.

After trying to do a mail merge in Microsoft word for an hour or so, I decided to try something else. I did a search and downloaded this program. WOW in 15 minutes I had merged my excel list and printed my labels. Thanks Avery!!
