Personalize Your Print Projects with Photos

Want to add a photo or image to your print project? With Avery Design & Print, you can import your saved photos or other graphics and make them part of your design.

This quick guide will show you how to add photos to your template, and give you some other nifty formatting tips so your print projects turn out just the way you want them to look.

How to add (import) your photo

Once you've started your project by entering your product number and selecting a design template, you're ready to personalize your design.

To add a photo, open the Images menu found on the left of the Customize screen. Click the “Add Image” or “Replace Image” button.

Use the tabs across the top to choose from “Computer,” “MyAvery,” “Avery Gallery” or “Google+ / Picasa” to browse and select your image. Click to open.

How to move your photo

Click to select your photo. Place your cursor inside the photo and it will turn into a four-headed arrow symbol. Hold down your left mouse button and you'll be able to move the image and place it where you wish on the template.

How to rotate your photo

Click to select your photo. Hover your cursor on the green dot or handle above your photo, and it will turn into a two-arrow circular symbol. Hold down your left mouse button and move your mouse to rotate your photo to the desired angle.

How to resize your photo

Click to select your photo. To increase or decrease the size of your photo, hover your cursor on any of the white dots or handles on the corners of your photo and it will turn into a double-headed arrow. Hold down your left mouse button to make your photo smaller or larger. To keep the proportions of your photo locked in, click the "Lock Aspect Ratio" box on the left menu.

How to crop your photo

Click to select your photo. From the Images menu found to the left of the Customize screen, click the "Crop" button. The white dots around your photo will be replaced by bold lines. Hover your cursor on the line near the area you wish to crop, then hold down your left mouse button and crop your desired image.

How to place your photo in the background

Click to select your photo. From the Images menu found to the left of the design canvas, click the "Set as Background" button. Your photo will fill the background of your template. To keep the proportions of your photo locked in, click the "Lock Aspect Ratio" box on the left menu. Any images or text you wish to add can be layered above the background.

If you're using multiple layers in your design, you can arrange the order of the layers using the "Arrange, Rotate, Align" menu to the left of the Customize screen or using Object List on the right.

How to add effects to your photo

To change the opacity of your photo, first highlight your photo. From the Images menu found to the left of the design canvas, drag the needle on the transparency scale. You'll see the effects directly on your design canvas.

To change the color of your graphics, first click the image. From the images menu, click the “Change Color” button. Your cursor will change to a paintbrush. Click the area of the graphic you want to change to bring up the color palette menu. Choose your color and click “OK.”

Experiment with the different tools available on Avery Design & Print and see what you can create. Made a change and want to revert back? Just click the Undo button at the top of the Customize screen. Once you've finished your design, click the "Save" button, then create a file name and save your project to either your MyAvery Online Account or computer.
