Can I print on both sides of my cardstock product?

Almost all Avery card products can be printed on both sides, with Clean Edge Business Cards being the only exception. Good news—we redesigned the Clean Edge Business Cards in 2007 to make them two-side printable (not applicable on Glossy Clean Edge Business Cards #8879). Look for Clean Edge Business Card packages marked “Two-Side Printable” to ensure you can print on both the front and back.

Glossy Clean Edge Business Cards #8879 have a special coating and are designed to be printed on one side only. These cards are the only Clean Edge Business Cards that are not two-side printable.

Are the envelopes that come with Avery Greeting Cards printable?

We do not recommend printing on envelopes. Envelopes can very easily skew and get caught in any printer which can cause damage. We recommend trying mailing labels. Avery manufactures both standard recipient and return address labels in white and clear.



3.

Can I print to the edge on Avery business cards?

Most Avery business cards are manufactured with 10 per page with each card touching the card surrounding it which does not allow for print to the edge capability. Avery does manufacture business cards for consumers who prefer to print an entire image on their business cards and these cards are manufactured with 8 per page without any of the cards touching each other which allows for full bleed printing capability.

Do I need to flip the image when I print a design on Dark Fabric Transfers?

No flipping of the printed image is necessary with Dark Fabric Transfers.



2.

What temperature setting should I use on my iron?

Set your iron to the highest cotton temperature setting and preheat for 5 minutes. Your iron should be empty of all water and set for NO steam.



3.

How long should I iron my transfer?

Ironing time varies according to the size of your transfer. We recommend 3 minutes for a full page transfer, 2 minutes for a 1/2 page transfer, and 1 minute for a 1/4 page transfer. First make slow, 20 second passes across the transfer, from left to right. Next make slow, 20 second passes across the transfer, from top to bottom. Use enough over-lapping passes to cover the image entirely. Allow your garment to cool for 2 minutes before peeling away the ironing tissue.

What if I need a set of dividers in a binder that has sheet protectors?

Avery manufactures Extra-Wide Dividers including Ready Index Table of Contents and Index Maker Clear Label Dividers. Both products are available in 5 and 8 tab.

How do I know which Avery divider set will work best with the Avery binder I purchased?

Avery has devised a system which assists consumers with what binder/ divider/ sheet protector tandem will benefit them the most. This system is called PRS: Presentation, Reference and Storage. Each product will have a designated letter which helps provide the best solution for which product you may need. For example, if you have a presentation which requires a set of dividers and a binder, simply look for the letter "P" on the front of the product which designates presentation.

How do I apply Avery Index Maker Easy Apply Divider Label Strips?

Stack the dividers, then peel off the strip of printed labels. Align the strip of labels with the dividers and firmly press down the labels from left to right to apply the labels to the tabs. Slowly peel away the strip in a downward motion, leaving the tab labels applied. For visual instructions, see the attached document.

Can I print a laser printer product with an inkjet printer?

If the product package is labeled "Laser/Inkjet" or "inkjet compatible," the product can be printed through either inkjet or laser printers.

Can clear laser labels be printed with an inkjet printer?

Our clear label products are made with polyester film face-stocks. Inkjet and laser technologies require entirely different coatings for printing on films. Clear laser labels meet all of the requirements to run on standard desktop laser printers. They can not be printed with an inkjet printer. Avery has developed a full line of inkjet supplies to meet the special demands of inkjet printers.



3.

What type of label adhesive is used for laser labels?

The adhesive used on white laser labels is an acrylic emulsion-based permanent adhesive. This type of adhesive is suitable for general purpose adhesion to most papers, envelopes, corrugated shipping containers, file folders, bare and painted metal, polypropylene and polyethylene bags. Laser Name Badges should not be used on leather, suede, corduroy, velvet, silk, vinyl and plastic. These labels can be applied and then removed from most other fabrics. The clear laser label products use a solvent based permanent adhesive which is also suitable for general purpose applications.



4.

Can I print a few labels and save the label sheet for future printing?

Avery recommends that a sheet of labels be fed only once through a laser or inkjet printer. Our guarantee of jam-free performance extends only to a sheet of labels that has been though a laser printer a single time. The heat and tight paper path of a laser printer can cause the label to curl after multiple passes through the printer. This could cause the label to jam or peel off inside the printer and result in an expensive repair bill. For printing fewer labels, try Avery Mini-Sheets™ Laser Labels, which have the same high quality labels, in a convenient smaller sized sheet.



5.

What is the shelf life of your labels?

This can vary greatly depending on environmental conditions (heat, humidity, etc...) but usually 2-3 years. However, if a person's definition of "shelf life" is really "life span," Laser & Inkjet labels have a life span of 10 -15 years.

Do I need to flip the image when I print a design on Light Fabric Transfers?

Yes, you will need to flip the image using the software, or select mirror image (reverse image) from your ink jet printer settings. Feed one sheet at a time. Test print your design on plain paper to make sure the image and text are flipped when printed. The Avery Design & Print Online tool at www.avery.com/print will automatically flip the image for you when you are ready to print.

What temperature setting should I use on my iron?

Are your markers toxic?

MARKS-A-LOT® markers are Arts & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) certified AP non-toxic and conform to ASTM D4236 - Government Toxicity Test. They are not hazardous or harmful when used in its intended manner.

What can I use to highlight on thin, delicate or recycled paper?

Try HI-LITER Glidestik - its solid formula won't bleed through so it's great for newspapers, bibles, or paperback books.

What can I use to write with on plastic or glass food containers?

Use pen-style Marks-A-Lot® Whiteboard markers to write on clean, dry plastic or glass food containers: just wipe off and write again next time around! Four colors make them great for color-coding.



4.

Need to repair peeling or torn wallpaper?

Avery Glue Stic works great!



5.

I need help positioning and holding stencils in place while I cut and trace.

Avery Removable Glue Stic does the trick!



6.

Can I use permanent markers on a whiteboard?

No. Only whiteboard (dry erase) markers should be used on whiteboards. If you have accidentally written with a permanent marker, trace over with a MARKS-A-LOT® Whiteboard marker and wipe off with an eraser or dry cloth.

How do I begin creating my design?

On the Toolbar, Select View -->Grid Sheet Lines to display the sections your sign will be split into. As you design your sign, you will see how the graphics and text will be split onto the individual sheets that make up your sign.

An easy way to begin your design is to choose a pre-designed template as your starting point. Then make changes or additions to text, fonts and graphics as needed.

Since signs are typically viewed at a distance, use large font sizes for best readability.

Use contrasting colors and avoid too much clutter to improve impact and readability of your message.

Many of the included graphics can be modified. Click on the graphic then Select Format>Effects Gallery to change brightness, contrast, color saturation or employ special effects like embossing or solarizing.

When placing a graphic so that it extends beyond the borders of the sign, Select Format>Crop in order to best view the final result and avoid potential print driver issues.



2.

How do I import Graphics?

If you are importing images from a scanner or digital camera, it is important to note that the printed quality of an image from a scanner or digital camera depends on the settings of those devices. A general rule is the higher the resolution settings of those devices, the higher the print quality. It may be necessary to adjust these settings. For more information about settings, refer to your user manual and look under resolution or scale.

Scanner: Use your scanner’s scaling features (if available) to scale your scanned image to the approximate size used in your project.

Digital Camera: Set your camera’s resolution to best suit the picture being used.

What type of shirt can I use with the Stretchable Fabric Transfers?

Stretchable Fabric Transfers can only be used with stretchable white cotton/poly blend or 100% polyester fabrics.

Yes, you will need to flip the image using the software, or select mirror image (reverse image) from your ink jet printer settings. Feed one sheet at a time. Test print your design on plain paper to make sure the image and text are flipped. Be sure to overlap with previous section to ensure that no spots are missed, and be sure to iron the corners. Allow your garment to cool for 2 minutes before peeling away the ironing tissue.
