I can't understand all the negative reviews. Using the downloadable Windows installer for my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit machine, it works like a charm. It could be slightly more intuitive; however, it is easy to figure out if you ever used any type of labeling or greeting card software in the past (just two of many I've bought and used are Art Explosion Pro, Hallmark software, etc). Not quite as robust as Art Explosion, of course, but for free software it is quite the deal.

The program does allow me to save my address label projects (have not tried a greeting card yet, but will update once I do). It does allow reopening saved project files with no problem other than having to look at the bottom center of the Open a Saved Project tab screen once the program launches to see the correct link (middle center defaults to your online Avery account - not a deal breaker for me either way, but do prefer local machine storage as I backup regularly via Macrium Reflect free edition and Google drive).

Also, truthfully, the program does take a little longer to save and open a project than it really should, as I am using an AMD FX-6300 MHz processor, which normally blazes through whatever I through at it...this is the first program that has a several second delay when saving and opening, as well as when printing. But for free, can't complain too much.

I was ready to run when I saw the reviews, but past experience (about 8 years ago I think) with Avery software helped take a gamble, and it was well worth the roll of the dice. And did I mention, it is free?

This software is missing features that were available in DesignPro. You can no longer specify where, on the physical page, the printing should start. You can no longer specify to print multiple copies of a given label on the same page. I am currently shopping for an alternative and am open to suggestions. In the meantime, I have to keep one computer on Windows 7 just to print labels.

This review is from Avery Design & Print:

Although this is the first time for personally providing a product review, considering the volume of negative reviews it seemed necessary to provide another viewpoint on this excellent free program provided by Avery. By way of Disclaimer, I have no affiliation (financial or otherwise) with Avery or any of its employees. I am not in the computer field but have used PCs for a number of years for personal use. I downloaded this 'Design & Print' software to make personalized mailing labels with the Avery 5263 2" x 4" series. It is unclear if the version which I downloaded today is the same one used by those who provided negative reviews (today's date is 2 July 2015).

I started the download at 754AM using our Broadband connection, which took 5 minutes and 4 sec (it is a little over 210 MB in size). The installation on our PC with Windows 7 Pro Svc pack 1 (with an i7-3770S CPU running at 3.1 GHz) took about 3 minutes. The user interface is straight-forward with the various tools well-marked and intuitive. Using the blank template (as opposed to the many styles Avery provides), I quickly added a text box, changed the font size and type, centered, and then highlighted specific lines to change the font colors to match the colors of a png image I added above the text.

By 817AM I printed an entire sheet (10 labels all the same) in full color, with each one perfectly centered, text sharp, and colors vibrant. Having used a professional Printing firm locally for many projects over the years, I can state that this is close to the laser quality I have purchased from them in the past (granted this has more to do with our printer than the software). So the entire process from start (initiating the download) to finish (completed label sheet) took 23 minutes, with the majority of that because of my design time and creative process.

In summary, this was a straightforward download and install, and the program proved to be very easy to use on our PC system and provided near-professional quality labels on our printer. I can see using this many times in the future on different label sizes.

I could not get it to run. It only showed a blank white screen. Spent 2 hours on this. Installed and uninstalled this program twice. Both time, I got a blank white screen. The tech directed me to the online program. It doesn't keep my settings(Font size and type). Love the old DesignPro. Avery needs to check their programs before releasing it. Oh yes, the tech ended the chat. So don't chat with them since the person didn't help.

possibly the worst software I have ever encountered

This review is from Avery Design & Print:

I don't have time to learn how to use this. I am very computer savvy and I just wasted 20 minutes and still don't have printed labels. Whatever happened to templates built into Word documents? Why is this so complicated? I just want to print tabs. This is ridiculous.

I normally do not leave comments but seeing that there are so many comments that are opposite to my experience I decided too. The Software worked great, it took 5 minutes to install and about 5 minutes to print.
