How do I get the printing to align properly on the page?

You can try these things:

  • Print on both a plain sheet of paper and your label or card sheet. Compare the sheets to check alignment.
  • Change the printer properties to “label” or “heavyweight” in the print dialog box. When you click Print and choose your printer, click on the Properties button and look on the menu for Paper options.
  • If using Avery Design & Print Online, use the Make a Printer Adjustment option on the print page. This will allow you to shift the printing up, down or to the side. View demo.
  • If using Microsoft® Word, adjust the columns or rows by clicking on the border and dragging it to a new position.
  • For additional help, go to our Help Center and choose Printing under General Help.

I was having a lot of trouble getting the labels and designs to line up. I noticed they recommend that you UN-check the "fit to page" box when printing. I have found that if I just use an 8.5 x 11 sticker sheet, pick the label size I want from the list, and CHECK the box "Fit to Page", they print perfectly. Maybe this information will help someone else.

This template has problems. The alignment was okay for a while, the first half of the page would print properly and the further you went down, the alignment would move slightly up, but it wasn't that bad. Then I went to print labels yesterday and its completely out of line! I thought that I may have accidentally made an adjustment to the alignment and saved the document, so I re download the template. I had the same issues but much worst!! I followed Avery's advice and changed my page size to A4, which made the alignment so awful it didn't even print within the correct label. I also tried to adjust using the side bar, but when I go to move it, the label outlines disappear. In addition to this I also printed out a printer alignment sheet and realigned my printer, but the issue still persist. I use this template everyday as a part of my job, so I'm at my ends wits trying to figure out how to fix this issue so that I can do my job.

Template spacing is different than actual product spacing

This review is from AVERY How do I get the printing to align properly on the page?:

I purchased the textured white print-to-the-edge arched labels (22809) and was excited to use them with the template I had designed using Avery's online tool.

Unfortunately I ruined two sheets of labels because the online template and the actual product have different spacing between labels.

Online template: 1/8" vertically, 7/16" horizontally

Actual product: 1/4" vertically, 1/2" horizontally

I ensured that I turned off the "Fit to page" option and that I was using the correct template for the product. Now I have to find a computer that has Microsoft Word on it so that I can download the template and see if that works better than the online printing wizard.

I'm so frustrated. Not only were the labels expensive, I've now lost 1/5 of the product due to poor software design on Avery's website and several hours of my time trying to troubleshoot. This is a terrible user journey!

I loved the idea of being able to print & create my own things from this program, I have a few different label/shipping/address products from this company, but I can NOT for the absolute life of me get them to align properly! The first 1 to 2 rows are perfect, but gradually slide off the paper going down & ruins it. Wastes my time, money, ink & labels. It's very disappointing and after trying it a few hundred times, have decided to stop buying avery products

Was not expecting this from a top label maker

        By Very unhappy customer

This review is from AVERY How do I get the printing to align properly on the page?:

I can't believe this question has so many 1 star reviews dating back MONTHS and no one has fixed the issue with label alignment. I, like many, found the label maker very easy to use. I was pleased with the many options to make a beautiful, colorful label. It should have been just as easy to print. It SHOULD have been nothing more complicated than pressing 'save and print'. But like many others before me the labels just don't line up.

I was using the 2x4 shipping labels. The first 2 rows were alright, usable but not centered perfectly. but the last 3 rows were completely off. I tried using the manual adjust but that wasn't the problem. It's something to do with the vertical spacing between each label that is built into the program.

Unfortunately I was working on a nonprofit budget and didn't have the luxury of buying new labels so I had to trim each label and align the 2 pieces, parts to make one. It's ridiculous that Avery sells a product and offers a template that doesn't work and essentially ruins their product. SHAME ON YOU.

Will Not Align No Matter What

I bought a couple packages of glossy round and oval labels to make some packaging for my earrings and I could not for the life of me get them to align. I wasted multiple sheets of my labels, as well as regular paper and my ink. Even going in and playing around with the "Make a Printer Adjustment" didn't work, because the first row would be fine, and it would just gradually get worse going down. Using the printer adjustment makes you move everything. I'm glad I got my labels on sale, because over $16 a pack is a huge waste of money for something that will either go in the trash because of alignment issues or collect dust. I'm really disappointed.

This review is from AVERY How do I get the printing to align properly on the page?:

I'm a 20 year customer and just got a new computer and printer. Remaking my business cards, this new program has no options to bleed to the border or make the background larger to fill in to the perforations. You papers don't have a gallery in the center so why do you have on in your layout and printout. I am very disappointed in you new programing as it has no adjustment to print off the edges like before. I spent all the time and look you don't help your customers here, you have many complaints on this aspect of your program. One would think you would make your program to fit your papers exactly. No, I extended my background beyond your grid, but it just snaps back into your wrong measurements and aligns them all wrong and prints out wrong. It's not the printer. The initial image is millimetrically wrong all the way around. I don't want a white border and even that border isn't centered and you don't have any adjustments in your printing layout. It sure would be easy to add that in right there. Alignment means everything with your papers. I used to do it 3 years ago. Why would you not fix this and ruin all your customers time and money and never to buy or believe in your product ever again. Too bad, I thought you had a good thing, but now it's useless it looks like doo doo! I am not a happy camper with AVERY!
