I can't understand all the negative reviews. Using the downloadable Windows installer for my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit machine, it works like a charm. It could be slightly more intuitive; however, it is easy to figure out if you ever used any type of labeling or greeting card software in the past (just two of many I've bought and used are Art Explosion Pro, Hallmark software, etc). Not quite as robust as Art Explosion, of course, but for free software it is quite the deal.

The program does allow me to save my address label projects (have not tried a greeting card yet, but will update once I do). It does allow reopening saved project files with no problem other than having to look at the bottom center of the Open a Saved Project tab screen once the program launches to see the correct link (middle center defaults to your online Avery account - not a deal breaker for me either way, but do prefer local machine storage as I backup regularly via Macrium Reflect free edition and Google drive).

Also, truthfully, the program does take a little longer to save and open a project than it really should, as I am using an AMD FX-6300 MHz processor, which normally blazes through whatever I through at it...this is the first program that has a several second delay when saving and opening, as well as when printing. But for free, can't complain too much.

I was ready to run when I saw the reviews, but past experience (about 8 years ago I think) with Avery software helped take a gamble, and it was well worth the roll of the dice. And did I mention, it is free?

This software is missing features that were available in DesignPro. You can no longer specify where, on the physical page, the printing should start. You can no longer specify to print multiple copies of a given label on the same page. I am currently shopping for an alternative and am open to suggestions. In the meantime, I have to keep one computer on Windows 7 just to print labels.

Don't Use Avery!!!

By AR

from Denver, CO

Pros

  • Easy To Navigate

Cons

  • Can't Print Elsewhere
  • Doesn't Save Correctly
  • Freezes or Crashes
  • Inaccurate Controls
  • Not Compatible
  • Not Very Powerful
  • Terrible Customer Service

Best Uses

This review is from Avery Design & Print:

This software is a complete waste of time, and if you have ANY difficulties/glitches in it's use...you better be prepared to get hung up on b/c that's Avery's idea of customer service. The rep, Andrew A, asked me one or two questions then ended our chat after I answered. No one followed up. The option to "save to computer" is a joke because NO other app can open this file, so if you can't print on your own, all that time you've spent creating business cards goes down the drain (although they give the option to save to computer as if you'd actually be able to open that file later). Then you're going to waste more time trying to get a response from the obviously incompetent customer service reps.
Avery is not professional, not helpful, & a drain. I wouldn't recommend it.

        Seriously!!!

I will buy your product but would like to print it myself. Why is your template so difficult. Move right, move left, move up, move down and it still won't print correctly. I just wish I could get the hours back that I spent on this.

I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FILL IN AND PRINT MY 58163 LABELS WITH EACH OF YOUR THREE OPTIONS - AND IN EACH ONE, EVEN AFTER SAVING EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL LABEL (DIFFERENT NAMES ON EACH), NOTHING HAS WORKED. ALL THIS IS FAR FROM THE WORST, HOWEV4R, BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW I TRIED ON LINE, ALL WAYS OF HELP HAVE BEEN "UNAVAILABLE" FOR THE LAST THREE HOURS. FINALLY TRIED TO CALL ON PHONE - NO LUCK THERE EITHER! I AM SO FRUSTRATED AND OF COURSE NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. SUCH A WASTE OF MY TIME, EFFORTS, AND MONEY!

            Aggravated and disappointed

This review is from Avery Design & Print:

The design tools work good, but every other function of this program does not. I save a design using the online design and print and cannot reopen it. I cannot print a design from the downloadable version at all. I've tried everything recommended to make it work. I absolutely hate having to use avery.

            Mostly useless on Apple Mac

              Cons

              • Example Bad Mac Software

This review is from Avery Design & Print:

Design & Print for the Mac is the WORST application I have ever run on an Apple product.

Why does Apple disable Java? Because it is a security risk and unreliable. That tells everything customers need to know about Avery's decision making for the version that allegedly runs on the Mac. I write "allegedly" because the product freezes when trying to load a previous project. ...And, I have it running on a top-of-the-line iMac 5k, one of the fastest computers made by Apple, and Design & Print has all the speed of a snail.

Advice to Avery: start over. Hire some real Apple Developers to write the app in Swift for modern Macs.
